Shahzad R. Khan, Esq. : Shahzad was born in Queens, New York. He is the eldest son of immigrant parents. His father came to this country with one hundred dollars in his pocket, a suitcase in hand and his education in civil engineering, and almost forty years later he has a successful real estate business and has seen both sons become successful in their respective fields of law and medicine. His parents are the very definition of the American Dream. Shahzad saw his parents proceed through every major decision in life with caution, because they were alone in a new world, with new laws and new traditions and they had no understanding of their rights. Shahzad went to law school to educate people about their rights and to protect the rights of ordinary, hard working people like his parents.
Shahzad earned his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Texas and his Juris Doctorate from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Shahzad is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and has represented many clients pro hac vice in the States of New York, Indiana, and Arkansas.
While in law school, Shahzad worked as a law clerk for the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Ft. Worth, Texas in the defense of Tarrant County in Federal Employment Discrimination litigation. Thereafter, Shahzad provided legal counsel and litigated domestic relations cases for indigent residents of the City of Chicago with the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic. This advocacy reflects Shahzad’s philosophy that “justice should not be a luxury only the rich can afford.”
Shahzad then began working for a number of firms in the Chicagoland area who exclusively focused their practices on family law. Most notably his last position at a large family law focused law firm he had his most rewarding professional experiences. As a senior associate he litigated countless contested divorce, custody, paternity, and child support cases on behalf of Illinois families. Many of the cases that he dealt with were cases that other firms had given up on and could not find a way to win. But Shahzad was focused on resolving the issues involved in those cases through planning strategy, negotiation, mediation and if possible compromise. But, when negotiations and compromising had failed he stood ready to advocate and litigate his clients’ position before the court. Shahzad has a deep understanding of family law and experience in family law. He is focused and ready to take on new challenges, your challenges and guide you to a resolution through strategy, negotiation, compromise and litigation.
Shahzad is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, Peoria Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association.
